Making a change in your weight loss efforts starts with the book The Obesity Code by Jason Fung, MD. (Amazon Link) I had been looking to make a change in my weight loss journey and started to research different plans and thoughts when I stumbled upon this book that was published in 2016.
As I started to read the guilt and self hatred that I had accumulated over the years of a sometimes unsuccessful weight loss journey started to melt way. This author very clearly lays out that while we may be the reason we gained weight, our bodies are the reason that we are not losing. Our bodies regulate everything and through years of obesity, advancing age, any number of things the regulation system wihin us sometimes get off kilter, specifically our hormones are off balance. The author contends that the hormone responsible for weight regulation is insulin and specifically insulin resistance within an overweight person. He sites numerous studies that back up his claim and also back up his theories about how insulin levels become unbalanced. A good portion of the book is dedicated to helping the reader learn how to manage and combat the insulin resistance that plagues the obese population. This book was a piece in the puzzle of understanding obesity.
